India, a Union of States , is a Sovereign Socialist Secular Democratic Republic with a Parliamentary System of government. The Republic is governed in terms of the constitution, which was adopted by Constituent Assembly on 26 November 1949 and came into force on 26 January 1950.

India comprises of 28 states and seven union territories. The States Reorganization Act of 1956 was a primary force in reorganizing the boundaries of India's states along linguistic lines, and bringing an amendment in the Indian Constitution whereby the three types of states, known as Parts A, B, and C states, were amended with a single type of state. Though several changes have occurred in the state boundaries since 1947, the Act is still considered as an undisputed player in providing the present shapes and contours of the Indian states. In November 2000, India gained three new states – Chattisgarh was carved out of Madhya Pradesh , Uttaranchal out of Uttar Pradesh , and Jharkhand out of Bihar.

The Constitution distributes legislative powers between the Parliament and state legislatures. The Parliament is bicameral – the lower house is known as the Lok Sabha (House of the People) and the upper house is known as the Rajya Sabha (Council of States). At state level some legislatures are bicameral and are run along the lines of the two houses of the national Parliament.

The Andaman group of islands consists of North Andaman, Middle Andaman, South Andaman, Little Andaman, and many smaller islands 1000 km off the east coast of India. The islands form the peaks of a vast submerged mountain range that extends for almost 1000 km between Myanmar (formerly Burma) and Sumatra. The Nicobar group of islands, which begin 50 km south of Little Andaman, comprise Great Nicobar, Car Nicobar, Nancowry, Katchal and Chowra. While geographically and ethnically close to Myanmar, politically the islands belong to India.



Andaman and Nicobar Islands is an archipelago of 572 islands adrift in the Bay of Bengal, the union territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands stretches over an area of more than 700 sq. kms. Located in the Bay of Bengal between India and Burma (Myanmar), the topography of the islands is generally hilly with heavy rain forests. Chatham Saw Mill



Owned by the Forest Department, one of the largest saw mills in Asia. This mill converts huge logs into timber of different sizes and supplies to private & government departments at reasonable price. Ornamental species like which is used in manufacture of furniture & a handicraft is processed here.

Forest Museum



This museum displays a large variety of timber species and models of all activities undertaken by the forest Department.

Chiriyatapu Beach



Famous for enchanting views that it present to the visitor and a paradise for the Bird Watchers. Adorned with a beautiful beach, Chiriyatapu offers you a best picnic spot.

Tribal Life



The Port Blair unit of department of Anthorpological Survey of India displayed a large number of tools, inputs models and photographs of habituals of aboriginal of the islands viz. Ongis, Jarawas, Sentinals, Shompens & Nicobaris.

Historical Monuments

Cellular Jail



Known as the Bastille of India and relic of bygone years, Andaman is know mostly from Cellular Jail in which many freedom fighters were incarcerated during the British rule. The jail had 600 cells and was built during 1896 - 1906 with bricks transported from Burma.

Ross Island
Located at the mouth of port Blair harbour, Ross Island was the seat of Imperial Administration till the Islands fell into the hands of Japanese in 1942. The Island is having old building and monuments of immense historical and archaeological value.

Viper Island
Viper Island stands as a witness to the grim sufferings that the freedom fighters of our country had to undergo during the British Rule. The British used to keep dangerous prisoners who resorted to hunger strikes and non-cooperation, at a jail built in the Island.

Sound & Lightshow
The Sound & Lightshow at Cellular Jail depicts the history of Cellular Jail and important events during the British Rule. This show is sponsored and presented by the Department of Tourism.

Jollybuoy or Redskin
Island Here one can watch underwater coral and marine life through a glass bottomed boat. To reach the Island, one has to first visit Wandoor National Marine park to embark a motor launch. Safe for swimming and snorkelling.

Corbyn's Cove Beach
This is a small picturesque sea beach 7kms away from Port Blair. a DRIVE TO THE BEACH ALONG South Point Road reminds a tourist of Goa or Kovalam in Kerala. Corbyns Cove is a palm fringed beach and an ideal place for swimming.

Marine Museum
The museum maintained by the Department of Fisheries carefully present exhibits of marine life of Andamans.

Water Sports
Both Safe Water Sports & Adventure Water Sports are conducted at Aberdeen Water Sports Complex & Mahatma Gandhi Children's Park. Irrespective, children or adults can join the water sports to feel the thrill of going to open sea.

Handicrafts
Sagarika Emporium is maintained by the Industries Department and displays variety of handicrafts produced out of ornamental timbers and shells. The items produced by tiny handicraft units in the Islands are sold from this emporium.

Havelock Island

Travelling to tourist destination by a train , bus or air is quite common. It is only on Andaman Sector, a tourist can undertake travel by a passenger ship. During the 60 hours journey to reach Port Blair, the shipping authority provide entertainments like screening of Regional & English feature films, Indoor Games and reading materials. You can take long walks on the deck of the ship and take bath in the swimming pool on sun-deck. During the voyage, a tourist can watch the magnificient sunrise & sunset from sun-deck . ashurkhana


Following Shia tradition the Qutb Shahis built Ashurkhanas, mourning halls for the annual Muharram celebrations. This Ashurkhana built by Muhammad Quli and located near the Charminar is the finest. In the early 17th century its walls were decorated with multicoloured tiles. This panel on the south wall has a high arch containing a mosaic of staggered hexagons with jewel-like shapes. The space between the hexagons as well as around the arch is filled with swirls of flowers, leaves, and vines.

Durgam Cheruvu is a secret lake, which is positioned near Shilparamam Crafts Village and Hitech City following the Jubilee Hills. The Durgam Cheruvu Lake is extensive covering a land area of about 63 acres and is encircled by the Deccan Plateau hilly ranges. mecca masjid


Mecca Masjid is adjacent to charminar,One of the largest mosque in the world (accommodating up to 10,000 worshippers) Construction began in 1614, during the reign of Sultan Mohammed Quli Qutub Shah, but wasn't finished until 1687, by which Mughal emperor Aurangzeb had annexed the Golconda kingdom and completed this Masjid in 1693. It is a grand edifice with a huge courtyard which can accommodate nearly ten thousand men at prayer. Tavernier has provided a graphic description of the mammoth boulders cut to size and carted for use in the building of the mosque.

Dirang :
Drive from Bomdila to reach Bhalukpong, the gateway to Dirang. Nestling in the womb of Buddhism, Dirang is dotted with Kalchakra monasteries and ‘Gompas’. Refresh yourself with the gurgling waters of the nearby hot springs, said to have medicinal value.

Bomdila :
Travel on the metalled road from Tezpur to reach Bhalukpong. Remember to visit the Craft Centre, a pleasurable initiative by the Arunachal government to bolster rural craftsmenship. You can even shop for a few colourfully designed carpets for your loved ones. Don’t miss a rafting experience on Kameng river.

Jengging :
Drive from Pasighat via Along to reach the base of Namcharua peak. Start your day with a jungle hunt in the wilds of Mauling National Park. In the afternoon, visit Pegu Lake and Nubo Bridge and devote your evenings to see the awe-inspiring War Dance of Miniyong.

Deomali :
Drive from Naharkatia and Margherita via Dharak to reach this pristine destination. Mingle with the tribal people roosting in the interiors of this village and get to know their cultural traditions and bygone way of survival.

It has great scenic beauty with snow clad mountains, streams and rivers, forests of different types, terraced cultivation, herds of yak and mountain sheep.
About 40% of the 1.1 million population (2001 census) are Buddhists. The ‘Tibetan’ Buddhists belong to the Mahayana sect which follows lamaistic traditions. Those living in the eastern part of the state, believed to have originally migrated from Myanmar and Thailand belong to the Hinayana sect.


The pagodas and Buddhist monasteries of Arunachal are great tourist attractions. Pagodas locally called ‘Gompas’ are places of veneration, or temples. The basic style of the pagodas comes from Indian stupas (like the ones shown in the photograph on the left of Rajiv Gandhi Memorial at Sriperambadur, TN, India). But the design has been adapted to suit different geographical locations and cultures.

Bihar is located in the eastern part of the country (between 83°-30' to 88°-00' longitude). It is an entirely land–locked state, although the outlet to the sea through the port of Kolkata is not far away. Bihar lies mid-way between the humid West Bengal in the east and the sub humid Uttar Pradesh in the west which provides it with a transitional position in respect of climate, economy and culture. It is bounded by Nepal in the north and by Jharkhand in the south. The Bihar plain is divided into two unequal halves by the river Ganga which flows through the middle from west to east.



As twilight landed, dacoits were the only thing on our minds. Bodhgaya, our base for Nalanda and Rajgir, would still take around two hours, the truckies around us were travelling in convoys, and Topchanchi, the place we were passing through, was densely forested.



We countered the monotony of a dull landscape and a perceived menace by coining arbitrary automobile terms. Patspin – it came from the enormous quantity of cowpats we encountered on the road – was when a car slid its rear wheels on a particularly large bovine discharge. A cataract corner was a blindish bend, not definitively blind, but dangerously tempting. And as we drove on, we also devised strategies to thwart ambushes, assaults, and, with Sac’s gupti by our side, even skirmishes.



We got out to take a closer look, not intending to buy any. The stall owner told us what we already knew – about truck drivers taking them along in case they encountered trouble along the way. “There are no dacoits here; this is our area, but then you never know. A friendly man by day in Bihar can’t be trusted at night,” said the oldish man, wearing a ragged shirt and a brown dhoti.

For decades, Chandigarh, the capital of Punjab, was known as an affluent but quiet, laid back city ideal for retired people that had little to offer beyond its modern town people and its relaxed way of life. However, it is the first city to initiate the concept of town planning in India. Designed by Le Corbusier, Chandigarh is strategically segregated into 61 sectors. The Rock Garden: An unpretentious entrance leads to a magnificent, almot surrealist arrangement of rock fossils, broken chinaware, discarded fluorescent tubes, broken and cast away glass bangles, building waste, coal and clay – all juxtaposed to create a dream folk world of palaces, soldiers, monkeys, village life, women and temples.



'One of the interesting points to call attention to is the adoption of a circular form for the hall which seems contrary to the development of good acoustics. The Assembly Hall is made in a hyperbolic shell with an average thickness of 15 cm, constant throughout its surface, resulting in a very low cost and a minimum of weight (here the principle of industrial cooling towers has been applied to the architectural intentions). This shell does not terminate in a horizontal but in an oblique section which shall receive a metallic framework (aluminum). This framework will become a veritable physical laboratory destined to ensure the interplay of natural lighting, artificial lighting, ventilation and acoustic-electronic mechanisms.

India, a union of states, is a Sovereign, Secular, and Democratic Republic with a Parliamentary system of Government. The Indian polity is governed in terms of the Constitution, which was adopted by the Constituent Assembly on 26 November, 1949 and came into force on 26 November, 1950.




The President is the constitutional head of Executive of the Union. Real executive power vests in a Council of Ministers with the Prime Minister as head. Article 74(1) of the Constitution provides that there shall be a Council of Ministers headed by the Prime Minister to aid and advise the President who shall, in exercise of his functions, act in accordance with such advice. The Council of Ministers is collectively responsible to the Lok Sabha, the House of the People.



In the states, the Governor, as the representative of the President, is the head of Executive, but real executive power rests with the Chief Minister who heads the Council of Ministers. The Council of Ministers of a state is collectively responsible to the elected legislative assembly of the state.



The Constitution governs the sharing of legislative powers between Parliament and the State Legislatures, and provides for the vesting of residual powers in Parliament. The power to amend the Constitution also vests in Parliament. The Union Executive consists of the President, the Vice-President and Council of Ministers with the Prime Minister as the head to aid and advise the President.
